If a food tour is sold out, can I get on a waiting list?

We do not provide a waiting list. If a date and time is sold out, there is a good chance that we will add an additional tour on that day. Please email us with your request.

How much walking is involved? Is it a fast-paced tour?

Tours generally last between 3 and 3.5 hours and participants can expect to be standing or walking for a majority of the time. We walk at a moderate pace and also provide resting locations.

Do your tours have anything to offer a native Memphian?

A majority of attendees live right here in Memphis. Memphis locals participate to learn about the neighborhoods and the city in which they live in as well as take advantage of knowing the best local restaurants in Memphis.

Does the tour leader accept gratuities?

Gratuities are greatly appreciated, although not mandatory. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%.

Can I shop during the tour?

We are on a schedule to arrive at each tasting location at a certain time so the food is freshly prepared for you, our participants. We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative tour in a timely manner. Consider allowing yourself time at the end of the tour to return to your favorite locations and/or stores.

When is the best time to take the tour?

We highly recommend taking our food tours at the beginning of your visit so you allow plenty of time to revisit the wonderful neighborhoods and tasting locations and have an opportunity to redeem your coupons when available.

What about taking children on the tour?

The tour is 3 plus hours long and some children have a limited attention span. Therefore the tour may not be appropriate for them. Parents, you know your children best. Since there is a lot of standing and walking, please consider this when deciding whether the tour is appropriate for your child.

If I am bringing an infant/very young child, do I need to purchase a ticket for them?

If you are bringing an infant/very young child and they will not be participating in the tastings, you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. However, please indicate in the ‘Notes’ section when you purchase your tickets if your infant or young child will be joining you.

Can I book a private tour?

Please email us and a member of the tastinroundtown.com staff will respond within 24 hours.

Does the tour end at the same place we meet?

No. However, we try to end up back on Beale Street. Detailed instructions are provided after ticket purchase with starting and ending point locations, and all participants receive a map with return directions included at the beginning of the tour. Return trips can be accomplished by walking, taking a taxi, or taking the trolley or bus.

Do we only walk around and sample food?

Absolutely not! tastinroundtown.com combines listening to live blues, historical facts, local culture and culinary insight into a unique 3+ hour experience. Imagine walking through downtown Memphis, visiting Beale Street with soulful blues playing and BBQ hopping while learning about the neighborhoods from people proud of their home, Memphis.

What restaurants will we visit on the tour?

There is a list on our “Restaurants” page on our website. Food is provided by ethnic eateries and specialty food shops and stores. Insights to Memphis’ best restaurants off-the-beaten-path are shared by the tour guide during the tour as well. We provide a list of all the restaurants that we highlight so you can revisit or contact them after the tour.

Are tours offered only in English?

Yes, we only offer tours in English at this time. Please email us if you would like to make arrangements for your own interpreter to join the tour.

What happens if it rains?

The tours are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, we will be able to go inside the establishments on the tour. We advise you to check the weather conditions for your day’s event and dress appropriately. Transportation is available when needed.

Are bathrooms available during the tour?

Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at selected food-tasting locations.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Yes. Photos and filming are allowed during the tour and we strongly encourage participants to do so. We’d love to see your photos and post them on our site with your permission.

Is there parking near the tour meeting point?

Yes, there is public parking close to our meeting points. Tastinroundtown.com is not responsible for any theft, or loss of valuables left in your car or damage that was done to your vehicle while parked.

Food FAQs

How much food is served on the food tour?

Our Memphis Food Tours, with their combination of drink and food tastings, with breaks for cultural and historical insight, provides enough food for most participants to be comfortably full afterward. Please understand our afternoon food tours are not intended to replace breakfast and lunch combined. Consider eating breakfast the day of your tour. We also strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle!

What types of foods are served on the tour?

Tastings range from Memphis BBQ, to ribs, pulled pork, fried pickles, southern fried chicken, BBQ nachos, handmade milkshakes, tamales, southern style fried catfish, Mississippi mud pie, fried green tomatoes, Mississippi caviar to name a just few. Food-tasting items and locations can change without notice.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

When you purchase your tickets please let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.). We will try to accommodate your needs. However, most of our foods are in the meat group, sorry vegans 🙁

Are there vegetarian options on the tour?

No, the majority of our tastings are in the meat group. Sorry, it’s the South!

Drinks FAQs

Are any beverages served on the tour?

None other than water. However, most of the tasting locations sell beverages during the tour.

Can we drink alcoholic beverages while on tour?

Yes, you can, however, you can not walk on public streets with open alcoholic beverages with the exception of Beale Street. Most restaurants sell beer and wine, but you will have to consume them at the restaurants!

Is wine tasting included on the tour?

Currently, we do not participate in wine tasting on any of our food tasting tours. Stay tuned as we will be adding these in the future.

Pricing FAQs

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?

Advance purchase tickets are required. Tours typically sell out quickly ahead of time. To maximize your chances of getting the day, time, and the number of tickets you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can only be purchased with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express online. Cash is not accepted for tour payments.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, to purchase or learn more about our gift certificates, please email us and a member of the tastinroundtown.com staff will respond within 24 hours with instructions and payment information.

What if I need to reschedule?

We will gladly send you a Rain Check Certificate that you can use at another time or give to friends or family for a great appreciation, birthday, or anniversary gift. You may also choose to donate your Rain Check Certificate to a local charity in your name.
